Helping Hedgehogs

SOS Hedgehogs was created in 2023 by David (Happy Dave) Doughty. David has worked with many conservation organisations over the past 20 years, developing a strong passion for our wildlife. On hearing that hedgehogs were in serious decline, he chose to help them by raising funds for various rescues within the UK. In return the hedgehog experts provide him with the education to pass on to the public.

Meet The Team

David (Happy Dave) Doughty

Founder / Director

David (Happy Dave) Doughty has loved wildlife and photography since childhood. These two passions merged when working for many conservation organisations and eventually led him to travels all over the UK & exciting close encounters with many amazing creatures. In 2023 David set up his own Charity, SOS Hedgehogs Ltd and also had his first book published. Robo Hog - A New Superhero for Nature, is just the start to a series of children's picture story books. A donation from the sale of each book is donated to SOS Hedgehogs Ltd.

Kerry Heathcote

Patron / Matron

Kerry Heathcote has over thirty years’ experience working in educational and custodial settings. She is a passionate advocate of inclusive lifelong learning and raising individual aspirations for all. Kerry is an active sustainability and conservation champion at the College of West Anglia (CWA), where she is Deputy CEO and Vice Principal Curriculum & Quality, hence her enthusiasm for her patron/matron SOS Hedgehogs engagement.

Kerry's other activity with several charitable organisations across West Norfolk, where she has lived since relocating from Edinburgh in June 2022, includes two voluntary trustee roles at King's Lynn Night Shelter and Open Road West Norfolk Training, respectively.

Michelle Blackman

Trustee

Michelle Blackman is an artist and David's partner, her love for hedgehogs has come from seeing how passionate David is about them and hearing about their rapid decline.

Michelle visited a hedgehog rescue with David and had the opportunity to hold a hoglet, this further cemented her care for them.

Now Michelle and David have the joy of helping hedgehogs in their own garden and also helping hedgehog rescues to carry out the important work they do on a day-to-day basis.

Gary Theobald

Trustee

Gary Theobald is a coloured pencil artist and musician, but otherwise retired.

Gary is a long term friend of David and illustrator for Robo Hog and further ongoing book projects.

Donations are given from these book collaborations to numerous hedgehog rescues.

Gary stated "I have become an SOS Hedgehog trustee to further assist David in his mission to raise awareness and funding for the ever declining hedgehog population".
